UK AHEC and UKMED (Minority Education Development): A partnership with a purpose.
The UK Area Health Education Center is a proud co-sponsor of the annual welcome reception for students interested in Medical school. The University of Kentucky Minority Education Development for Prospective Medical Students (UKMED) is an annual program designed to specifically recruit self-identified non-majority junior and senior pre-medical undergraduate students who have a strong interest in attending medical school upon graduation from college. The goals of UKMED are to:
- Increase interest shown by minority students in the medical profession
- Increase the number of minority student applicants to University of Kentucky College of Medicine
- Increase matriculation of minority students to University of Kentucky College of Medicine
This year, it is anticipated that 32 prospective students will participate in the UKMED program. They represent colleges and universities throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky and neighboring states. Following the welcome dinner Sunday evening held on August 11, these students will be hosted to a one day medical school enrichment experience on Monday, August 12th, 2019. On that day, they will participate in demonstrations, classes, and experience presentations by practicing physicians and educators. Participants will have the opportunity to network with current non-majority medical students during a lunch panel discussion. For more information, contact email@example.com.
